Our purpose is to support women in the construction industry through professional development, business opportunity, community outreach and mentoring programs.
Whether you want to embark on a new career, establish a networking base, be a mentor/mentee, make a difference in your community, continue your education, or invest in great friendships—NAWIC offers a variety of opportunities—large and small.
National Association of Women In Construction (NAWIC) is an international association of women employed in construction which promotes that industry and supports the advancement of women within it.
Our Beginnings
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) originated as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. Sixteen women working in the construction industry founded it in 1953. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network for women working in a male-dominated field. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and officially became the National Association of Women in Construction.
Today, NAWIC is still based in Fort Worth and has over 115 chapters throughout the United States, including our Coastal Georgia chapter which was founded on May 16, 2009. Together, we provide our members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more.
Our monthly chapter meeting luncheons and our events throughout the year bring current industry news, project and career opportunities and education directly to you. Network with leaders and acquire the information and resource avenues you require in the ever changing construction industry.

Women in Construction Week, better known as WIC Week, started in 1998, when the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) wanted a way to raise awareness and celebrate and recognize women in the industry. Since its inception, it has grown and evolved into an event that is celebrated across the country. Companies utilize the week to recognize their female employees and reflect on how they can be an inclusive workplace, while NAWIC chapters hold networking events, give back to their communities, and use the opportunity to educate others about WIC.
